About Stay Wild - Tiger Protection Trust

At Stay Wild Tiger Protection Trust we have a vision; a vision of a thriving population of Sumatran Tigers living in their natural habitat. A vision where forest edge communities are empowered and educated about their unique environment and the wildlife that resides there.

To achieve our vision the Stay Wild team are working hard to prevent more deforestation due to palm oil. We do this by providing English lessons to several local communities, setting up well-organized camera trap programs to monitor the wildlife within our forest area and providing new income opportunities for the local communities.

We are based in Batu Katak, North Sumatra and working in the Gunung Leuser ecosystem, which is one of only two strongholds left for the Sumatran Tiger. But this forest is home to more than just the tigers, it’s also home to Orangutan, elephant, Thomas leaf monkeys, countless song birds and other endangered species.

Our vision is big and to achieve it we need YOUR help!

Luckily in Sumatra life is cheap compared to western society and so every little bit goes a long way!

$10; pays for our transport to get to another wildlife rescue where we can make sure the extraordinary animal gets back to the Jungle where it belongs!

$20: Buy a shirt, Give a shirt! More often than not, the children we teach are wearing hand-me-downs, full of holes and stains. So Stay Wild are making a promise, every shirt you buy, we give a shirt to someone who needs it!

$30: Provides a new school bag, new workbook and English lessons for one lucky child. Over one month, our lessons grew from just 19 children too 82! (And that was just one of the villages we teach in)

$50; Trees, tress and more trees! Unfortunately thanks to deforestation we can never replant enough trees. But we are going to plant as many as we possibly can! Not only does our team go and replant native trees in the jungle but we also take schools with us so we can show them first hand why it is so important to take care of this unique environment.

$100; Goes a long way to getting Stay Wild some wheels of our own. Stay Wild is based on the edge of the Karst forest, in Batu Katak, North Sumatra. The main way to get around is by motor bike and we need to raise about $400 to get a wild bike of our own.

$200; A full months wages!  Stay Wild employees 5 people from the local community that know this jungle better than the back of their hand. They help with rescues, our English lessons, getting around and translating for us. They are a vital part of our team and exceptional people.

$350; A new camera, YES PLEASE! The camera trap operation is an incredibly important part of what we do as this allows us to monitor exactly what wildlife (including endangered species) is living within the Gunung Leuser ecosystem, it gives us an idea of population rates and even see if there are poachers out there that we need to prevent. All the evidence that these cameras catch help us to fight off the big companies that want to mine the forest or turn it into palm oil.

Every little helps and right now we need YOU to help us give these endangered animals a chance at a future. If you’re interested in volunteering with us on the front line or even in your own back yard or just want to know more about what we do then get in touch today!
